The Covenant consists of homes located near the Village in Santa Fe. Most homes in this area are large luxury estates many of which were originally built in the 1950s when Rancho San Dieguito was subdivided and marked for development. The term ‘Covenant’ comes from the agreement made by various owners to preserve the community in its pristine condition, and retain the natural beauty of the area. Covenant today is set on over 7000 acres of land set in lush green surroundings featuring over 1900 single family homes in various architectural styles. The original agreement to restrict and control development was signed in 1928, and this has ensured that the community has retained its natural beauty, without unsightly high-rise buildings, over speeding cars or environmental pollution ruining the area.
Covenant at Rancho Santa Fe is one of the largest, oldest, and most elite communities in San Diego. It features homes in the Spanish Colonial and Mediterranean styles many of which were designed by architect Lilian Rice in the late 1920s and 30s. Residents live within 10 square miles of unspoiled natural surroundings and have access to amenities such as the Santa Fe Golf club, hiking and walking trails, a garden club, public library and advanced security services. The Village of Rancho Santa Fe is located in the center of Covenant and features a number of stores, restaurants, professional services, a post office and other amenities. The development is located just 25 minutes away from downtown San Diego, providing residents with easy access and a short commune to the business district.
Homes in Covenant range in size from 1700 to 15000 square feet. In addition to single family homes, there are over 80 condos available for both sale and renting. It is a popular equestrian area with over 45 miles of riding tracks in addition to clubs and training facilities. There are a number of public and private schools in the area, including the top ranked Rancho Santa Fe Elementary and Middle Schools, as well as the Torrey Pines High School.
